Our Proud History
In May 2002, the then Cloverdale executive struck a committee to
pursue the idea of publishing a history book about the community
of Cloverdale. In October, 2002 the historian, Ken Tingley, was
retained to write the book. In 2004, community resident and
writer Paul Bunner, was hired to assist with the writing and editing of
the book. The book was formally presented to the community at a
book launch in September, 2005. The first run of 300 books
was completely sold by October, 2005. A second run of 500 books
was purchased in the spring of 2006, of which roughly 380 presently
remain. All books are hardcover and are currently selling for the
price of $25.00 plus gst.
The book is entitled Heart of the City and tells of Cloverdale’s dramatic history as one of the oldest downtown river valley communities. It features dozens of fascinating archival photos and maps and includes stories about the enterprising people who have populated the flats for more than 100 years. It is a wonderful keepsake for future generations and a great addition to any home library.
